Red flags
Breathing trouble, collapse or severe abdominal pain need urgent action. This guide explains warning signs during GLP-1 treatment and when to seek help. Call 911 for a medical emergency; this information website cannot provide emergency care.
The list
Call 911 for trouble breathing, swelling of the tongue or throat, collapse, a seizure or loss of consciousness. These can signal a severe allergic reaction or another medical emergency. Stop the suspected GLP-1 medicine if a serious allergic reaction occurs and get help immediately. The common side effects guide describes more routine symptoms; it cannot rule out an emergency.
Severe abdominal pain that continues, sometimes spreading toward the back, may indicate pancreatitis. Stop the GLP-1 medicine and seek medical care immediately. Vomiting does not have to be present. Do not wait for a routine appointment or use the nausea and digestion guide to manage severe pain at home.
Upper abdominal pain with fever or yellow skin or eyes needs prompt evaluation for gallbladder disease. Repeated vomiting, inability to retain fluids or markedly reduced urination also needs urgent assessment because dehydration can injure the kidneys. If symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening, use emergency care. Product-specific warnings, including those for Wegovy treatment, help the treating team decide what to investigate.
What to do
Do not take the next dose. This is one of the few situations where stopping first and asking afterwards is correct.
Urgent care or an emergency department depending on severity. Not the next scheduled review.
Name the medication and the dose. It changes what whoever sees you will consider first.
Once you are safe. Whether treatment restarts, and how, is a decision made afterwards with the full picture.
Context
After urgent needs are addressed, the clinician evaluates what happened and whether the medicine contributed. Bring the product name, formulation, recent doses, other medicines and the time symptoms began. Include any recent increase, missed doses or change in supplier. A timeline helps distinguish a suspected reaction from another illness; it does not prove the cause. The GLP-1 treatment exclusions page explains histories that affect future use. GLP-1 drug interactions also matter, particularly when insulin or a sulfonylurea increases the risk of low blood sugar.
The next treatment decision depends on the diagnosis, recovery and the exact product label. A lower dose or a different brand is not an automatic solution after a serious reaction. Ask who will review test results and provide instructions before another dose is due. Our physician-supervised weight loss guide describes the role of follow-up, while the weight loss medication guide explains why products have different indications and precautions. Keep discharge instructions available to every clinician involved. A website message or adverse-event report must never delay necessary medical care.

Common questions
Urgent symptoms, product warnings and follow-up decisions need individual medical evaluation.
Given the list at the first appointment and told to keep it on my phone. Never needed it, glad I had it.
Bad pain on a Sunday. Stopped, went in, was checked properly. Turned out fine but nobody told me to wait until Monday.
Came off after a scare, was investigated, and restarted on the other molecule months later.
The distinction between "expected discomfort" and "go now" was made properly. That is the bit most places skip.

The list is short and it is covered at the consultation. Recognising it quickly is what makes the difference.
